The CRA is looking for graduate candidates in information technology, engineering or in science who are up for a new challenge to fill positions in their scientific research and experimental development Division. As a Research and technology advisor, you will be asked to :

  • Delivering a tax incentive program that promotes and encourages businesses of all sizes to perform Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) within Canada.
  • Visiting claimants' premises. Analyzing and reviewing their claims for SR&ED tax incentives.
  • Preparing reports that explain your rationale for whether or not the work meets the criteria for eligibility as SR&ED.
  • Resolving disputed issues.
  • Making presentations on the SR&ED program and liaising with current and potential SR&ED claimants
  • Promoting and delivering Agency initiatives

Preference for appointment will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order.

Please note that this process will be used to staff positions in Laval and Montréal only. As a result, we expect candidate appointed from this process to move near the place of appointment. Essential

To be eligible, you'll need to meet the following requirements :

Education: A postgraduate degree from a recognized* university with specialization in one of the following fields of science or engineering relevant to the SR&ED Program at Canada Revenue Agency: information technology, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, textile, mechanical engineering.

Candidates possessing a bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science with an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered as meeting the education requirements.

 *A recognized university is defined as a Canadian public or private institution that is recognized or authorized to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of the provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism.

If you obtained your degree in Canada, the institution must be listed in the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials.

If you obtained your degree outside of Canada, you must present a proof of equivalence. You can obtain this proof from the Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion of the Quebec Government.

You must upload your proof of education in the Education section of your Candidate profile by the closing date and time indicated on this notice of job opportunity demonstrating that you meet the education requirement. Failure to do so may result in your application being rejected.

Experience

You must possess one of the following work experience* in your field of study:

  • Information technology, computer engineering, software engineering: Significant work experience* in software development and/or programming
  • Electrical engineering: Significant work experience* in electronic design Or Significant work experience* in software development and/or programming
  • Chemistry, textile: Significant work experience* in textile related to development or research  
  • Mechanical engineering: Significant work experience* in design and manufacturing of tools, machines and equipment Or Significant work experience* in textile related to development or research  

OR

Experience* in the SR&ED Program at the Canada Revenue Agency as a Research and Technology Officer or as a Research and technology advisor in one of the field previously described

OR

A combination of the two above mentioned experiences.

* Experience is normally associated with the performance of these functions as part of the major job duties accomplished for a period of no less than 3 years within the last 7 years of work experience in industrial research, academic research in an industrial setting, or experimental development.

Assessment

Positions to be staffed are bilingual. Candidates must be able to work in both official languages, English and French (Bilingual imperative CCC). Second Language Evaluation (SLE) testing will be administered, as required, using the Public Service Commission's SLE tests. You will find more information here. Try out the self-assessment test for written expression and reading comprehension before you actually take the tests.
