Staffing Requirements to apply

One of the following subjects or courses:

2. Intermediate Financial Accounting
The subjects or courses in a or b below:

  • Intermediate Financial Accounting II or Intermediate Accounting II or FA3

b) CPA Module 5: Intermediate & Advanced Financial Accounting.

3. Advanced Financial Accounting
One of the following subjects or courses:
Advanced Financial Accounting or Advanced Accounting or FA4 or CPA Module 5: Intermediate & Advanced Financial Accounting.

In addition to the above, you must have at least two of the following four optional study areas:

2. Cost Accounting
One of the following subjects or courses: Cost Accounting or Management Accounting I & II or MA1 or CPA Module 2 Introductory Management Accounting.

4. Accounting Information Systems
One of the following subjects or courses: Accounting Information Systems or Information and Computer Systems or Management Information Systems or MS1 or CPA Module 12: Information Technology.

Some of the courses listed above may require a combination of courses to be considered equivalent depending on the recognized postsecondary institution. The courses required for the acceptable specialization in accounting may or may not be part of a degree program, but must be accredited by a recognized postsecondary institution or a recognized professional accounting association.

The acceptability of courses is determined by comparing the courses from the post-secondary institution taken by a candidate to the courses on the transfer credits or prerequisite studies lists issued by one of the recognized professional accounting associations. The courses must be compared to the closest academic year during which the courses were taken. The terminology may vary depending on the program, recognized postsecondary institutions or recognized professional accounting associations.

When academic qualifications are unclear or where a course does not appear in any of the transfer credits or prerequisite lists, the candidate is responsible for applying to a recognized postsecondary institution or one of the recognized professional accounting associations for an assessment of their accounting studies in question.

Proof of education must be submitted during Step 3 of your application to support the educational criteria. Failure to provide proof of education will result in disqualification from further consideration.
A *recognized postsecondary institution is defined as a Canadian public or private institution that is recognized or authorized to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of the provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. The institution must be listed in the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials directory.
The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a *recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
You must attach your course transcript showing that you have obtained the minimum pass mark of the mandatory and elective courses or study area listed above.

Experience:

Essential

Recent and significant* experience with large and/or complex ~ corporations in public practice or industry performing one or more of the following functions:
-conducting/managing audits;
-corporate tax preparation;
-administering accounting policies of large corporations;
-providing tax advice under the Income Tax Act;
-preparing financial statements for large corporations;
-interpretation of the statutes administered by the CRA;

OR

Recent and significant* experience performing audits or audit support functions*** at the AU-02 level or higher within the Canada Revenue Agency.

*Recent and significant is defined as the experience that would normally be associated with performance of these functions as part of the major job duties accomplished for a period of not less than 24 consecutive months in the last five years.

***Experience performing audits or audit support functions within the Canada Revenue Agency may include, but is not limited to, experience in the Audit, Business Intelligence & Quality Assurance (BIQA), Appeals, Criminal Investigations (formerly known as Enforcement) or SR&ED Divisions for the purposes of administering and/or enforcing the Income Tax Act.

Large and/or complex corporate entities generally refer to corporations with gross revenues exceeding $20 Million; however, each example will be assessed for its relative complexity based on the information presented on a case-by-case basis.

There is a waiting period of 180 days before this test can be rewritten. If you have previously written this test, make sure that 180 days have elapsed before you write it again. If you do rewrite the test before the retest period has elapsed, your new result will not be valid, and your previous result will stand.
