Who can apply

Any expenses incurred by candidates from the general public in connection with assessments in this staffing process (travel for testing, etc.) will be borne by the candidates themselves.

Please note that this process will only be used to staff positions in Penticton, Vancouver and Victoria. As a result, we will expect candidates appointed from this process to relocate to these locations. Candidates from the general public will have to pay any expenses related to relocation as well as any travel for assessments.

Duties

• Providing appraisal reports, advice and expert opinion concerning tangible property including the most complex real estate.
• Participating in preparing and evaluating completed appraisals in order to maintain the required work standards and to ensure that professional appraisal principles, techniques and approaches are applied.
• Providing service through promoting effective communication internally with staff and management and externally with taxpayers and/or representatives.
• Act as an expert witness in Court and provide consultative services to the Tax Services Offices.

Essential Education

Accredited Appraiser of the Canadian Institute (AACI) or EA designation from the Ordre des évaluateurs Agrees du Quebec (O.E.A.Q).

You must upload into the Education section of your Candidate Profile proof of your education credentials (e.g. copies of designations/transcripts, diplomas/degrees) demonstrating that you meet the essential education requirement for the position being staffed. Essential Experience

Experience in complex commercial and residential appraisals and experience preparing appraisal reports of all types of property, in accordance with the Canadian Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice (CUSPAP),

AND

A minimum of 6 months real estate appraisal experience within the past 5 years is required.

Preference may be given to individuals with more experience.

Essential Assessment

The following qualifications will be assessed using locally developed tools. Only those who achieve the minimum pass mark of 60% will be considered further in this staffing process.
• Knowledge and Application of Real Estate Appraising* (Submission)
• Ability to Prepare Appraisal Reports* (Submission and/or written report)
• Professionalism (Professionalism will be assessed throughout the entire staffing process)

Asset Assessment

The following qualifications may be assessed using locally developed tools (e.g. interviews, reference check and or written exams). Candidate must achieve a 60% minimum pass mark for each requirement:
• Ability to Communicate in Writing in English (Submission and/or written report)
• Ability to Present Expert testimony* (Interview)
• Ability to Communicate Orally in English (Interview)
• Effective Interpersonal Skills
• Dependability
• Judgement

* Information regarding these assessments:

For the purpose of this staffing process:
• Knowledge and Application of Real Estate Appraising is defined as: the ability to apply the generally accepted appraisal principles, techniques and/or practices, as defined by the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) and /or the Ordre des Evaluateurs Agrees du Quebec.
• Ability to Prepare Appraisal Reports is defined as: the ability to present the mandatory elements of an appraisal report as set out in Section 6.2 of the Canadian Uniform standards of Professional Appraisal Practice in a clear, concise format that is logical and professional in its presentation.

Results from the assessment of essential and asset staffing requirements may be used at the appointment stage to select candidate(s) for appointment. Assessment results from locally developed tools are not portable to other staffing processes.

Required Candidate Availability during Assessment:

Testing sessions will be scheduled during the day. Candidates are expected to make themselves available for assessment when scheduled. Please note that there will be no rescheduling without extenuating circumstances. Candidates who do not present themselves at their scheduled sessions will not be considered further and deemed to have withdrawn from the process.

• Valid Full-Privilege Driver's License or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a valid full-privilege driver's license.
