Key Activities

• Providing appraisal reports, advice and expert opinion concerning tangible property.

• Participating in preparing and evaluating completed appraisals in order to maintain the required work standards and to ensure that professional appraisal principles, techniques and approaches are applied.

• Providing service through promoting effective communication internally with staff and management and externally with taxpayers and/or representatives.

• Act as an expert witness in Court and provide consultative services to the Tax Services Offices.

Staffing Requirements to apply

Education

• Successful completion of two years of postsecondary education, with an acceptable specialization in statistics, accounting, economics, business administration, history, sociology, a law-related field, or other specializations relevant to the position.

AND

• Be a Candidate Member or be eligible for Candidate Memberships in the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) and have successfully completed all the AIC mandated Core Courses, which lead to the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI, P. App) Designation.

Successful candidates are expected to continue their studies towards obtaining the AACI, P. App designation.

A recognized postsecondary institution is defined as a Canadian public or private institution that is recognized or authorized to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of the provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism.

Experience

Experience conducting Real Estate Appraisals for a cumulative period of twelve (12) months in the last three (3) years.

Preference may be given to individuals with more experience.

The onus is on the candidate to demonstrate that they meet the experience requirements. Insufficient information may result in your application not being considered further.

Essential

The following qualifications WILL be assessed using locally developed assessment tools. Assessment methods through locally developed tools may include a written exam, a written submission, an interview and/or reference checks. Candidates must achieve the required pass marks shown.

• Knowledge and application of real estate appraising
Assessment method – interview – passing mark 70%

• Ability to prepare business correspondence in English
Assessment method – written exam – passing mark 70%

• Ability to Communicate Orally in English
Assessment method – interview – passing mark 70%

Assessments for the above are expected to take place between June 18-29, 2018.

Throughout the staffing process, it is your responsibility to make yourself available for all testing and interview dates for which you are invited. If you fail to attend any of the scheduled testing or interview sessions, you will be deemed to be no longer interested in this staffing process and as a result, you will not be considered further.

Any expenses incurred by candidates from the general public in connection with this staffing process, will be borne by the candidate themselves.

Results from locally developed assessment tools are not portable to other staffing processes.

Discretionary

The following competencies MAY be assessed using a standardized assessment tools. Candidates must achieve the required mark shown.
