Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Directorate Overview

Job duties

As an Assistant Director, Workload Operations & Management (MG0646), you are responsible for:

  • Delivering the Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) operations for requests submitted to the CRA under federal ATIP legislation;
  • Liaising with program branches and regions within the CRA, the Office of the Information Commissioner and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and ATIP counterparts of other government departments;
  • Leading the implementation of strategies and processes to enhance operational efficiencies.

 

As an Assistant Director, Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Governance (MG0884), you are responsible for:

  • Advising the Agency on access to information issues including legislative changes;
  • Liaising with program branches and regions within the CRA, the Office of the Information Commissioner and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and ATIP counterparts of other government departments;
  • Providing awareness training and advice to CRA employees related to requests for information under federal ATIP legislation;
  • Developing policies and procedures to enhance access to information at the Agency.

Essential staffing requirements

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements.

 

Education:

  • A secondary school diploma

OR 

  • CRA-approved alternatives*.

*CRA-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma include an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

 

Experience:

For both positions, have experience in:

  • Experience* in the application and interpretation of the Access to Information Act, and the Privacy Act;
  • Experience* providing advice and recommendations on complex issues** to senior management***;
  • Experience* working with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience* preparing and delivering reports and briefings (written and verbal) for senior management***;
  • Experience* in managing staff, including work planning, following up on deliverables, monitoring performance, and providing feedback;
  • Experience* managing, planning, and organizing program delivery.

*Experience is normally associated with the performance of these functions as part of the major job duties accomplished at the MG-04 level or equivalent, and above, for a period of no less than twenty-four (24) consecutive months within the last five (5) years.

**Complex issues and files are those that have at least one (1) of the following characteristics: multidimensional, sensitive, confidential, involve or affect many partners or stakeholders, create a precedent, have a major impact on the public or is subject to significant public or media interest.

***Senior management is defined as a person of authority in an organization who is involved in policy making or program implementation. This would be at the MG-06 level or equivalent (EX-01 minus 1), and/or above.

Education:

  • A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a post-secondary diploma/certificate in the field of access to information and privacy.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in financial planning in relation to strategic and operational needs;
  • Experience in the development, and modification of access to information (ATI) and privacy policies and strategies.
