If you are a motivated IT Specialist, the CRA Strategic Engineering and Technology Integration team wants you! As a Java IT Specialist at CRA, you will support IT employees in the design, development, sustainability and maintenance of CRA cross-platform Enterprise applications; establish standards and guidelines for developers; and provide developers with processes, methodologies, best practices, productivity tools, tutorials and training.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for key activities in the following categories: development, delivery, enhancement, integration, maintenance and support the operation of IT products, solutions and services.

These activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting technical research and developing business cases and long-term plans, cost/benefit analyses, feasibility studies, and technical specifications and documentation
  • Developing, testing and implementing IT solutions and products
  • Identifying, developing, reviewing, and evolving best practices, standards, operating procedures, and processes
  • Identifying, researching, evaluating and recommending the acquisition of products and services
  • Providing recommendations, demonstrations, and presentations to colleagues, clients, and management

Most positions will be located at 875 Heron, Ottawa. This process may be used to staff similar positions within ITB.

Who can apply

Employees of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) AND federal public service employees in organizations found under Schedules I, IV and V of the Financial Administration Act that are:
 

  • Substantive CS-03 employees

AND eligible veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members

AND individuals with preferred status who live or work within the general rule of minimum distance of the position(s) being staffed.

Essential staffing requirements

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements.

Education

  • the CRA's minimum education standard for CS

Experience

Have experience* in at least two of the following:

  • conducting analysis, design, development, maintenance, implementation and testing of IT deliverables
  • identifying, monitoring and resolving complex problems in an IT environment
  • providing technical advice, recommendations and knowledge transfer to colleagues, clients and management
  • identifying, developing, reviewing and suggesting improvements to best practices, standards, operating procedures and services
  • Center for Internet Security (CIS) or National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Government Configuration Baselines for Linux and Windows
  • Operating Systems deployed into virtualization platforms (Cloud, VMWare, Hyper-V)

 

*Experience is normally associated with the performance of these functions as part of the major job duties accomplished for a period of not less than 3 cumulative years within the last 5.

Essential

The essential staffing requirements indicated below will be assessed during the process and may be used to identify candidates for positions.   • Performance validation
  • Second Language Evaluation (for bilingual positions)
  • Dependability (pass mark: 70%)
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines (pass mark: 70%)

Results from locally developed assessment tools are not portable to other staffing processes.

Please note that the assessment stage of this staffing process will be conducted in conjunction with staffing processes 54380468, 54380332, and 54382810. If you apply on these processes, you will be assessed only once on common elements.
