What is the intent of this process?
We are currently seeking talented candidates to fill various AU-04 positions within the following divisions: International & Large Business, Small & Medium Enterprises, High Net Worth Audit, Aggressive GST/HST Planning (AGP), GST/HST Large Business, Appeals, GST/HST Appeals and Business Intelligence & Quality Assurance (BIQA) and Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SRED).
This pool may also be used to staff other similar positions.
A few AU-04 key activities include :
- Identifies significant audit issues/concerns, prepares audit and risk management reports, and formulates plans and procedures to audit highly complex and sensitive corporate cases.
- Conducts research surrounding the highly complex application of statutes administered by the CRA.
- Reviews the work of junior team members.
- Discusses proposed adjustments, penalty recommendations, and resolution of highly complex technical and significant audit issues with the taxpayers/representatives.
A few AU-04 key activities with managerial components include:
- Managing and monitoring the activities of a team by establishing program objectives, staff requirements, time frames and quality standards for conducting audits of the large multi-divisional, national and/or international conglomerates.
Please Note: The pool(s) established from this staffing process may be used to staff similar positions in any CRA office located within the Ontario Region.
Note that upon your written acceptance of a permanent offer of employment, you will no longer be eligible for subsequent positions to be staffed from this staffing process and you will be removed from the pool(s).
Positions staffed from the pool(s) may require candidates to travel to and/or work from a taxpayer's location anywhere in the Ontario Region. In addition, the job may require frequent travel, multiple times a week, sometimes overnight, to conduct audits and/or participate in meetings at a taxpayer's premises, or to assist in an investigation.

Preference for appointment will be given to eligible veterans and Canadian Forces members, Canadian citizens and permanent residents, in that order.

Essential staffing requirements
To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
Education
The CRA's minimum education standard for AU:
The eligibility for a designation from a recognized professional accounting association; or
A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting
Note: By the closing date and time of this poster, you must upload your education credentials (including school transcripts showing that you have completed the accounting courses, the course code and grade obtained) in the Education section of your Candidate Profile and submit all required documents at the time you submit your application. All proof of education must be clear and legible. Proof must indicate that your diploma or degree was conferred, along with your name, institution and level of education (diploma, degree, masters or PhD). Candidates that possess a designation from a recognized professional accounting association may submit a scanned copy of their membership card or annual fees invoice as proof that they meet the AU requirement. Failure to do so can result in your application not being considered further. We will not accept editable documents or documents sent to our mailbox. Candidates who currently hold an AU position (whether on a substantive or acting basis) within the CRA are not required to provide proof of education at the time of application. The CRA will accept foreign credentials as long as they are considered acceptable by a recognized Canadian educational institution. Candidates with foreign education credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency. This would include having the equivalency of your degree confirmed by a recognized credential assessment service , as well as having your transcripts evaluated by Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) to confirm that they amount to the acceptable specialization in accounting. Any applicable fees are the responsibility of the candidate. Experience
You must possess the following experience at the time of application:
Option 1: Experience Acquired Outside of the Canada Revenue Agency
Recent and significant* experience with large and/or complex** entities in public practice, industry or other (non-CRA) government bodies performing one or more of the following functions:
- Conducting or managing audits in accordance with Canadian auditing standards or Internal Auditing Standards;
- Preparation of corporate tax returns, which includes providing tax advice and interpretations related to complex issues under the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, or other statutes administered by the CRA;
- Preparing financial statements for large corporations in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Conducting or managing forensic accounting or auditing
- Conducting or managing criminal investigations
OR
Option 2: Experience Acquired Within the Canada Revenue Agency
Recent and significant* experience conducting or managing audits or reviews, for the purposes of administering and/or enforcing the Income Tax Act or the Excise Tax Act or other Acts administered and/or enforced by the Canada Revenue Agency or duties ancillary to audit***, while appointed to an AU-03 level position or higher within the Canada Revenue Agency.
OR
Option 3: Combination
A combination of recent and significant* experience under Option 1 and 2.
*Recent and significant experience is normally associated with the performance of these functions as part of the major job duties accomplished for a period of 18 cumulative months or more in the last 5 years.
**Large and/or complex entities generally refer to corporations with gross revenues exceeding $100 Million CAD; however, each example will be assessed for its relative complexity based on the information presented in your application.
***Duties ancillary to audit within the Canada Revenue Agency may include, but is not limited to, experience in, Appeals, Audit Support, Business Intelligence & Quality Assurance, Digital Compliance, Criminal Investigations, Legislative Policy and Regulatory Affairs or Scientific Research & Experimental Development divisions for the purposes of administering and/or enforcing the Income Tax Act or the Excise Tax Act or other Acts administered and/or enforced by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Assessment
As this is a perpetual staffing process with an extended closing date, assessments may occur at any time after applications are submitted. We may assess candidates in batches as they apply and depending on specific experience. You are expected to check your Candidate Profile periodically to review correspondence related to this process, including the time prior to the closing date of the job poster. Candidates are expected to make themselves available for assessment when scheduled. Failure to attend your scheduled assessment may result in the rejection of your application. Assessments will only be rescheduled for exceptional circumstances and supporting documentation may be requested by the Staffing Board. The Staffing Board will make these decisions on a case by case basis.

We may limit the number of candidates to be considered further in this staffing process by using a top-down approach to select candidates based on more relevant experience to the job being staffed.
