Indigenous Student Employment Program (ISEP)

The Canada Revenue Agency takes great pride in having a diverse workforce with wide-ranging skill sets. To promote a workforce that is representative of the Canadians we serve, hiring managers are encouraged to give preference to Indigenous students who self-identify and meet the job requirements of the position(s) being staffed.

An Indigenous person is:

  • a North American Indian or a member of a First Nation (includes status, treaty or registered Indians, as well as non-status and non-registered Indians),
  • a Métis or
  • an Inuit.

The Agency has created and continues to develop initiatives and resources that benefit the Indigenous community. For instance, the National Indigenous Employee Network (IEN) provides opportunities for Indigenous employees, their colleagues, and supporters to connect and discuss issues relating to an inclusive work environment within the Agency. The IEN promotes a safe forum where Indigenous People's cultures, beliefs, and practices are respected and valued. We also offer the Buddy Initiative, where a new student is matched with a volunteer Indigenous buddy, who helps them with their transition in the workplace. These two initiatives foster an inclusive work environment for Indigenous employees and help establish a sense of community.

We encourage you to visit the ISEP page for more information about the program and where you will be able to read a testimony and watch our video.
